A Rush of Wings by Kristen Heitzmann

A Rush of Wings
by Kristen Heitzmann
ISBN: 978-0-7642-0845-4
ISBN-10: 0-7642-0845-4

From the publisher:
Though her panic is real, Noelle St. Claire is uncertain what danger she is fleeing. Fragmented images and slivers of memory have driven her to abandon her wealthy, sheltered life in New York for the hope of a haven—remote and safe.

Noelle's arrival at the Rocky Mountain horse ranch owned by Rick Spencer and his brother Morgan causes more than a little stir. Beautiful, vulnerable, yet strangely secretive, Noelle is an enigma the two contrasting brothers seek to unlock. But as their attentions breach the wall she hides behind, the past becomes a menacing threat from which Noelle can no longer hide.

My Review:
I almost didn't want this book because of it's cover.  I'm so glad I didn't judge it based on that - it looked too dark and frightful!  The book itself had suspense, bad choices, good choices, redemption, and hope!

The characters seemed so real I felt like I was a fly on the wall.  The author had a way of telling the story that made it interesting and yet so intriguing to the very end.  I really had no idea how the book would turn out until the very last page.

This book would make a great movie that I'm sure my husband would even enjoy!

Due to some very graphic nature, it is not family friendly.  However, due to the healing parts I would recommend to a very mature adult audience!
This would make a great travel companion on a plane or long road trip.

Blessings to you!  You are loved!

Amy Inspired a novel by Bethany Pierce Book Review

Amy Inspired a novel

From Publisher:
Amy Gallagher, aspiring writer, has an unabashed obsession with words. She gave up a steady, albeit unexciting, job to pursue a life of writing. However, two years and one master's degree later, she finds herself almost exactly right back where she started. Discouraged by the growing pile of rejections from publishers and afraid that she has settled, Amy knows something has to change.
Then she meets the mysterious, attractive, and unavailable Eli. Amy finds herself struggling to walk the fine line between friendship and something more with Eli, even as she tries to cope with the feeling that her friends and family are moving on without her. When the unexpected begins pouring in, Amy doubts the love and fulfillment she seeks will ever come her way. Forced to take a close look at who she has become, the state of her faith, and her aspirations for her life, she must make a choice: play it safe yet again or finally find the courage to follow her dreams.
My Review:
This book was quite enjoyable - for grown-ups!  It made me think and had a rush of literary terms that made me enjoy the book even more.  Sometimes as a Mom I get caught up in using simple children sentences when the English language has so much more to offer.
As for the story being family friendly, it is not.  There were very grown-up situations and stories that are not pure or holy.  For that reason, I could not  and would not recommend this book.
Each person has to decide for themselves what roads they take in life and this book had plenty of choices and yet some of them in my opinion were not the high road.  I know that this happens in real life but I would rather had some wise choices presented in a Christian book meant for enjoyment.
I would like to read more of this author in the future - her style of writing kept me intrigued and I did feel like I was reading from an educated point of view.
Blessings to you!  You are loved!

Voices of the Faithful Book 2 Book Review

From the Publisher:
A new year's worth of inspiring stories from the front lines of faith.
"A willingness to go is all they have in common," says Beth Moore and Kim P. Davis, speaking of their friends on the front lines who are spreading the gospel around the world and with whom they collaborated to create this book. This second book of 366 daily devotionals features stories of God's faithfulness, written by hundreds of missionaries worldwide.
From stirring miracles to heroic adventures, this second volume highlights those who daily go to the outer limits of spiritual devotion.
A follow-up to the first book which has now sold 300,000 copies.
My Review:
This is one of those books - you are supposed to read one day at a time but I can't.  Ever since I was a little girl - missionary stories were and are the best!
Missionaries have a goal - to tell others about Jesus.  Pretty simple?  Not in this book...time after time - you will read how they felt one way and God led them in completely different direction.  (I just love when God is in control and humans are not!)

I fell in love with this book.  It will stay in my permanent library.  This book is an encouragement to other believers in Christ.  It is one not written in vain - it is truly fulfilling the great commission!
The book is divided into months.  Each month has a certain theme.  One of my favorites is September, "Lessons from the Young".  Learning from the mouth of babes - is a true reality in our household as well in many missionaries' lives.
I will be reading some of the stories to my children - some they might not be ready for or comprehend, quite yet.
Something else I truly appreciate - is all royalties for the Voices of the Faithful series support the work on the International Mission Board.
Blessings to you!  You are loved!

Dining with Joy by Rachel Hauck Book Review

Dining With Joy by Rachel Hauck

From the Publisher:

Joy Ballard has a secret: she's a cooking show host who can't really cook.
When her South Carolina-based cooking show, Dining With Joy, is picked up by a major network, Joy Ballard's world heats up like a lowcountry boil.
Joy needs help. Then she meets chef Luke Davis who moved to Beaufort after losing his Manhattan restaurant. A cook at the Frogmore Cafe, he’s paying debts and longing to regain his reputation in the elite foodie world.
Luke and Joy mix like oil and water…until Joy is exposed on national television. With her career and his reputation both under fire, they’ll have to work together to fix the mess. Is it possible that they can learn to feast on God’s love and dine with joy?
My Review:
This has been a delightful read!  I enjoyed every minute of it.  The entire time I was reading, the author made me feel like I was a fly on the wall learning secrets about the characters.
I will tell you not to read this book when you are hungry.  The references made my stomach growl with jealous pains.  The author was even gracious to put a few recipes in the back of the book that were mentioned in the book.  YUM!  I can't wait to try the banana bread.
Overall, this book was entertaining and it was a blessing to see how the story unfolded.  I appreciated the purity that was presented in the book, as well.
Blessings to you!  You are loved!
